Society of St. Andrew- Gleaning Updates

Hello Gleaners,

Wow! May already?! Society of St. Andrew has had a busy winter. We gleaned greens until mid-December, received 33,600 lbs of potatoes in January, gleaned a surprise field of greens in March and all while picking up 34,069 pounds of food from a local farm/food broker!

We couldn’t of done it without you, our dedicated volunteers! To showcase all the work that gets accomplished we have published a facebook page. Please visit Society of St. Andrew- Charlotte Area or http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Society-of-St-Andrew-Charlotte-Area/117136854972393 to see photos, read updates, view videos, etc. We will continue to email gleaning announcements for non-facebook users.

The warm weather has sent us straight into strawberry season! I hope everyone is picking, buying and eating lots of local berries! We are busy contacting area farmers hoping to receive any excess at the end of May/early June. If you stop by a farm stand tell them our story! If interested, don’t hesitate to give them my number- 704-577-0779. Pass along their info to me as well.

Our busy gleaning season should be July-Nov with yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, corn, tomatoes and greens.

We are always looking for folks willing to pick up gleaned food from farms and deliver it to our recipients. If you have a pick up truck, trailer, van, SUV, etc. and would like to know more about volunteering please let me know.

I’m looking forward to gleaning with all of you this year!

In health,

Kristen
